Is the library really free?
Yes. The Locamem engine is MIT-licensed and free forever — unlimited memories, the full retrieval stack, never-delete temporal validity, contradiction detection, air-gapped operation, all of it. No trial, no feature gates that quietly flip off, no credit card. The free tier is the product, not a sample of it. Clone the repo, read the source, ship it.
So what am I actually paying for?
People and optional add-ons — never the memory. The Team plan buys priority support, onboarding, a security review of your integration, and the optional self-hostable encrypted sync for moving memory between your own machines. Enterprise adds on-prem and air-gapped deployment help, SLAs, formal security documentation, and training. The engine you run is identical at every tier.
Do I ever pay per memory or per recall?
No. Never. There is no usage meter and no per-recall cost — that's the entire premise. Storing a memory is free, recalling it is free, and recalling it a million times is still free. Your memory is a local SQLite file you own; nothing about reading or writing it phones home or rings up a bill.
How does this compare to cloud memory services?
Same job, opposite premise. Hosted memory services ship your agent's context to their servers, index it on their hardware, and bill you per recall against their retention tiers.
